Update 23 May 2022- Green Homes Grant is closed

The Green Home Grants have closed to new applications on 31st March 2021 at 5 pm. The scheme had been previously extended to the end of March 2022. However, as per the government’s announcement through a press release, the applications have ended a year early, on 31st March 2021.

The UK government had provided homeowners and landlords with an exciting, limited-time opportunity that would have allowed them to install new windows and doors in a property cost-effectively.

While the grant is no longer available, it potentially allowed many of you to replace your single glazed windows with double glazed windows or upgrade your existing double glazing to modern C.U.IN windows without breaking the bank.

Let us look at the scheme that offers Green Home Grants for windows and doors.

The Green Homes Grant is a new government-funded scheme for homeowners and landlords in England. The scheme offers homeowners a chance to make their homes energy-efficient by using vouchers for home improvement. This initiative from the UK government enables homeowners to renovate their homes at a significantly reduced cost.

Launched in September 2020, the Green Homes Grant was initially open for six months. However, seeing the response, the government extended the scheme till March 2022. And so, the homeowners should ensure to get the home improvement work, including the door and windows, completed latest by March 2022.

The home improvement categories under the Grant are divided into two categories:

  • Primary home improvements: Insulation | Low Carbon Heating Solutions
  • Secondary home improvements: Energy-Efficient Doors | Draught-Excluding Solutions | Triple or Double Glazing (includes windows) | Heating Control Systems

Those looking to upgrade or install windows and doors are covered in the secondary home improvement category. Although it’s not completely environmentally friendly glass free windows and doors grant, for low-income households, it’s a reduction close to free windows and doors government scheme.

The Grant covers up to 2/3 of the cost involved in home improvement. The contributions have a limit of up to £5000. However, households with low income can get complete funding for home improvement costing to the value of £10,000.

To qualify for the Green Homes Grant, homeowners or landlords should opt for at least one home improvement solution from the primary category as part of their upgrade or renovation plan. The purpose is to create a substantial difference in a home about energy efficiency.
